Pundarika Launches Two Major Fundraising Initiatives

Pundarika Foundation is pleased to launch two new fundraising efforts in support of Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s vision: the construction of a new shedra at Tsoknyi Gechak Ling and the first community-wide campaign for the Himalayan Children’s Education Project, which supports young students from Rinpoche’s home region of Nubri, Nepal.

These initiatives reflect Pundarika’s ongoing commitment to two key aspects of Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s vision: supporting the Tsoknyi Nuns and uplifting those in need through education-focused humanitarian work.”

A New Shedra for a Growing Monastic Sangha

Over the past decade, the generosity of our global community has transformed Tsoknyi Gechak Ling into a thriving monastic center—now home to over 300 nuns dedicated to deep study and spiritual practice. Together, we’ve built school buildings, living quarters, an incredible main shrine hall, a 3-year retreat center, an international retreat center, and more. It’s a remarkable achievement and a testament to what is possible when compassion and collective effort meet.

Now, as more young women arrive and advance in their studies, Tsoknyi Rinpoche is once again responding with compassion—asking us to continue shaping this extraordinary campus by helping fund the construction of a new shedra. The current building, which has served six graduating classes, will be converted to much-needed dormitories. A newly constructed shedra will host up to 200 nuns and include classrooms, a research library, and space for teaching and meditation.

Please join the global community in raising $2.7 million by the end of 2027 to build the new shedra and ensure that advanced training remains accessible to the growing number of nuns at Tsoknyi Gechak Ling.

Two Brothers, One Vision for Nubri

Born in the remote Nubri Valley of northern Nepal, Tsoknyi Rinpoche and his brother Mingyur Rinpoche have long shared a deep commitment to the people of their homeland. Recognizing the lack of access to basic education, healthcare, and opportunity in the region, they have spent many years quietly supporting initiatives that uplift children and families—while nurturing their cultural roots.

Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s Himalayan Children Education Project is at the Heart of this Effort:

  • Gauri Shankar Basic School in Sama village provides free primary education, daily meals, and boarding to over 90 students in grades 1–5. It is the only school of its kind in the valley and serves as a vital bridge for children whose families still live traditional Himalayan village lives.
  • The Boudha Youth Hostel in Kathmandu extends this support to students ready for secondary school, unavailable in the remote Nubri region. Located near quality private schools in the capital, the hostel offers a safe, nourishing environment along with holistic care, tutoring, and skill-building—all while keeping the children connected to their culture.

Previously sustained by a handful of generous donors, these programs are now being opened to broader community support through Pundarika’s new fundraising campaign. Each gift helps provide tuition, housing, food, mentorship, and a path toward a brighter future for children from some of Nepal’s most under-served regions.
